Chip RAM is the memory pool in Amiga computers that is directly accessible by the custom chips (Agnus, Denise, and Paula) via Direct Memory Access (DMA). This memory stores graphics, audio, and other data that the custom chips can process without CPU intervention, enabling efficient multitasking and hardware-accelerated features. Early Amiga models were limited to 512KB of Chip RAM, though later revisions supported up to 1MB or 2MB depending on the chipset. While the CPU can also access this memory, it may experience wait states during custom chip bus access, unlike Fast RAM which is CPU-exclusive.
