Exec
Exec is the preemptive multitasking kernel that forms the core of AmigaOS, residing in the Kickstart ROM. It manages task scheduling, memory allocation, interrupt handling, and inter-process communication using a microkernel-inspired architecture. As one of the first preemptive multitasking kernels available in consumer computers, Exec enabled true multitasking without requiring applications to explicitly yield control.
