NewIcons is a third-party icon system developed for Amiga Workbench that replaced the standard four-color planar icons with vibrant color-rich graphics supporting up to 256 colors. Introduced in the mid-1990s, this system stored icon data within standard .info files using a custom data format that required the NewIcons library to be installed in the system. It significantly enhanced the visual appearance of the Amiga desktop, allowing for photorealistic and gradient-filled icons long before official OS support for such features existed.
